First Grade News
September 26, 2011
Some important first grade news:
- Our reading story this week will be "Get the Egg". We will be working on words with short e and words that have blends (fl/gr/bl/etc,).
- In math we will be working with counting money (nickels and pennies). Please practice this at home with youyr child using real money. It is a hard skill for 1st graders to transition from counting by 5's (nickels) and then switch to ones (pennies). This will take a lot of extra practice.
- Please keep sending in those box tops! We are doing GREAT! The end of the month is soon approaching and I think we could be in the running for having the most in September!
- Accelerated Reader reward will be sometime after the end of the month. First grade needs 3 points to qualify for the reward this month. We already have 3 who have qualified, and some more will this week. Thanks to those parents who came on Friday to help with the tests: Lindsey's dad, Emilee's mom, and Rylea's mom.
- Thanks to Mrs. Campbell for filling in at the last minute for our Read Aloud. The kids really enjoyed her!
- We are 1/2 way through the first nine weeks! Can you believe it?? The students should be into the first grade routine, but some are still struggling to follow rules! They are still talking and playing around in their desk instead of listening, and this is going to cause them to lose out on some very important instruction! Detention Hall has started for grades K-2. It will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It will also be a time for study hall for those students who do not complete their work in class or their homework! Please encourage your child to become good listeners and to follow the school rules!
- Write the words "Autumn has Arrived" on a piece of paper along with your child's name and they will receive a free homework pass.
- Please put your child's snack money in something as they are losing it throughout the day and are quite dissapointed when they do not have enough for the machine!
Thanks for all of your support!!
