Mission: Van Elementary will educate today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Core Beliefs

1. School commitment to continuous improvement will result in improved teaching & learning for all.

4. Strong instructional leadership & highly qualified personnel are required to drive the curriculum to achieve mastery for All.

5. Assessment, data disaggregation, an instructional focus are essential components for measuring student achievement.

7. Collaboration with parents and community will provide greater educational opportunities for school improvement.

Goals:

1. All students will meet state standards in Reading/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Arts, and PE.

2. All students will develop the personal skills of responsibility, self-direction, cultural awareness, and good citizenship in a safe and caring environment.

3. Students will progress successfully both academically and socially on their journey through education.

Van Elementary School is located in the heart of Southern West Virginia’s Coal Fields, and serves approximately 113 students in grades K-5. The staff at Van Elementary strives to prepare students for continued learning in middle school and beyond. This is done by providing a curriculum that contains Rigor and Relevance, and emphasizes the need to foster and grow positive Relationships.
